Job Title: Development Director

Position Summary:

The Development Director is a key leadership position responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of the organization’s fundraising initiatives including, but not limited to, major gifts, annual fund, planned giving, special events, and capital campaigns. The Development Director works closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and staff to create and implement strategies to achieve the organization's fundraising goals and ensure financial sustainability. 

Fundraising Strategy and Execution: 

  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising plans to meet annual revenue targets. 

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors and prospects. 

  • Oversee the annual fund program, including mailings and annual fundraising drives. 

  • Develop and manage capital campaigns and other major fundraising initiatives. 

  • Plan and execute special fundraising events, ensuring they are profitable and align with the organization's mission and values. 

Donor Relations and Stewardship: 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors. 

  • Create and implement a stewardship program to acknowledge and thank donors. 

  • Develop and oversee a planned giving program. 

Grants and Corporate Sponsorships: 

  • Research and identify potential grant opportunities and corporate sponsorships. 

  • Write and submit grant proposals and reports to foundations and other grant-making organizations. 

  • Develop and maintain relationships with corporate sponsors and grant-making organizations. 

Team Leadership and Management: 

  • Lead and manage the development team, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff. 

  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment. 

  • Work with the Board of Directors to enhance their fundraising skills and support their fundraising efforts. 

Marketing and Communications: 

  • Work with the marketing team to develop fundraising materials and campaigns. 

  • Ensure consistent and effective communication with donors, stakeholders, and the public. 

  • Oversee the maintenance of the donor database and ensure accurate and timely record-keeping. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree. 

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record of success in major gifts, annual fund, planned giving, and capital campaigns. 

  • Strong leadership and management skills. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, staff, and volunteers. 

  • Proficiency in fundraising software and donor databases. 

  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and ethical standards. 

  • High level of organization and attention to detail. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
